Antilles Pinktoe - Avicularia versicolor

Clearly, the Antilles Pinktoe, Avicularia versicolor, is one of the most colorful and striking species of the spider world. They are native to Martinique and several other islands in the Caribbean and form a tube-shaped web high in the trees. Their primary diet, as is with most spiders, consists of insects and other spiders.
As evident in the picture, this species goes through quite a dramatic color transformation as it matures. Perhaps the bright colors serve as a warning for would be predators to “stay away!”
